Educating all students to become lifelong learners is the mission of the Hickman Mills C-1 School District. The District was founded 100 years ago, when Ruskin High School first opened its doors. In 1902, the student body consisted of 2000 students. Today, we pride ourselves in being fully accredited by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and educate over 7,500 students. These students attend eight elementary schools, two middle schools, two high schools, three specialized schools, an early childhood center and a gifted program. The schools are led by a group of caring teachers, and staff. These staff members work closely with patrons of the district, Board of Education members, students and business leaders to create a healthy and stable learning environment for all children.
Providing children with an innovative and challenging educational experience is the goal. The District provides this by a number of programs from early childhood education to college credit classes.
The Hickman Mills community believes that high quality schools and strong community support benefits everyone. Working together with interested people of diverse backgrounds through parent groups and other community organizations have assured us that our schools are responsive to community needs.
Senior citizens are encouraged to volunteer in our schools. In addition, they may buy hot lunches for a minimal charge. The District also provides honorary senior passes to all activities.
The District strives to provide quality education to meet the needs of each individual student. A wide-range of classes are offered such as A+ computer training, calculus, physics, computer graphics, foreign languages, desktop publishing and over 30 dual credit classes where students may receive high school and college credit.
